呂軒慧 Shiuan-Huei Lu

Shiuan-Huei Lu is currently a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Neurology at Taipei Medical University (TMU), with a joint appointment in the OEMI Laboratory at National Taiwan University (NTU). She received her Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy and Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering from National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), and completed her Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering at NTU in 2023. She is also a licensed occupational therapist. Her recognitions include the Yamaguchi Medal for Young Investigators (2025), AP-Biomechanics Best Abstract Award (2023), and the VICON x IRC Young Investigator Poster Award (2022), along with multiple honors for outstanding presentations and travel awards.

Her research centers on the neuromechanics of human movement in gerontology, with particular emphasis on understanding and mitigating fall risk in older adults with mild cognitive impairment (MCI). Recognizing the growing prevalence of cognitive decline and mobility impairments in aging societies, she has led innovation studies using marker-based motion analysis systems to elucidate neuromechanical adaptations during obstacle crossing and cognitive-motor dual-task conditions, providing critical insights into kinematic control, inter-joint coordination, dynamic balance strategies and end-point control in older adults with MCI.

Beyond her primary research focus, she has contributed to a diverse range of biomechanical and clinical studies across multiple populations, including gait instability in individuals with anterior cruciate (ACL) deficiency during slope walking, balance control in children and young adults with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) undergoing pharmacological therapy, motor coordination in Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), anticipatory postural adjustments in adolescents, and lower-limb biomechanics in developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH). She has also participated in studies on and developed recurrent neural network models for MCI detection using single IMU gait data. Additionally, she has engaged in government-funded projects addressing musculoskeletal load and occupational risk among long-term healthcare workers in Taiwan.

She has served as Deputy Secretary General of the 2024 International Conference on Movement Science and Technology (ICMST) and as a member of the Secretariat for the 9th World Congress of Biomechanics (WCB). She also actively contributes to the scholarly community as a peer reviewer for leading journals, including Archives of Gait & Posture, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (APMR), and Frontiers in Aging.
